cake!

The (almost) finished cake...
I made a basic cram filling...milk,egg yolk,sugar, and vanilla.

the fondant was one of the messiest things ever! You melt marshmallows, and a splash of water..then 32ox powdered sugar and 1/2c shortening. It STICKS everywhere! (check out the bowl!)

magically, with some food coloring and lots of muscle..it becomes this! I got 3-4lbs! It retails for $13 a pound! I spent $2.67!

These cakes were made with the cupcake recipe posted earlier....except I added almond extract

I used a blackberry jam filling
A rich custard filling...
awaiting the robe of fondant
yum...extra leftover
a bit naked, but done!

I so want to learn how to bake a decent cake! It's a gift that I have not yet mastered. And fondant scares me. But one of these days, with encouraging posts such as these and when I have the spare time...Watch out!!! I'm glad to see you back, Mama!

It is bakers like you who give me hope that one day I will have the courage to try fondant. That cake looked beautiful naked, amazing cloaked and I'm expecting out of this world once it's finished. Thanks for sharing your work!
